This position would support a united group of students and residents committed to act with compassion and justice through education, action, reflection and prayer.
- Have fluency in English and Spanish.
- Supervise and train Service & Justice Intern, with regular meetings (weekly/biweekly). Conduct performance evaluations biannually.
- Be on the committee of the Martha Trauth Social Justice Education Endowment Fund.
- Provide historical knowledge and back-up administrative support to volunteer leaders in various social justice ministries and facilitate communications of volunteer leaders with necessary staff members for planning.
- Provide formation to the parish on Catholic Social Teaching, and the Corporal and Spiritual Works of Mercy. Collaborate with our faith formation positions.
- Connect with, collaborate with, and facilitate the involvement of our parishioners (students and residents) with the following:
- The two other Catholic parishes in Columbia and St. Francis House (Tri-Parish Health Ministry, St. Vincent de Paul at Lourdes, Language program at Sacred Heart, etc.);
- University and college departments and programs to plan actions that integrate faith with campus service and justice efforts (Missouri Alternative Breaks, Leadership and Service, Tiger Pantry, justice efforts);
- Columbia Interfaith and Ecumenical groups (Loaves & Fishes, Room at the Inn, Love Columbia, My Life Clinic, Interfaith Garden, etc.);
- Columbia community agencies and programs to better integrate and meet the needs of the programs with our parishioners’ desire to serve. (Voluntary Action Center, Turning Point, Welcome Home, True North, etc.);
- Diocesan groups such Catholic Charities, Pro-Life events, Missouri Catholic Conference. Collaborate and find greater opportunities to involve residents and students. (Missouri Catholic Conference Day in October, Midwest March for Life, March for Life, Catholic Charities service opportunities);
- State and national connections with USCCB, Catholic Relief Services, Catholic Volunteer Network, and long-term service opportunities to better involve our parishioners (CRS College Ambassadors, attendance at the Catholic Social Ministry Gathering in Washington, DC).
- Provide a ministry of presence by participating in various Newman service opportunities.
- Be our contact with and coordinate the relationship with our Sister Parish in El Salvador.
- Coordinate and lead parishioners (both student and resident) on diocesan, state, national, and/or international trips and conferences.
- Be ready to respond quickly and to direct Newman efforts in cases of natural/human-made disasters (either locally, nationally, or globally) consisting of education, action, and prayer.
- Develop resources and train the staff on how to support someone in crisis. Be the staff go-to person for supporting someone in crisis.
- Share information with the Development Director for grants in the area of service and justice.
- Oversee the Service & Justice budget, assisting volunteer leaders in the allocation of funds.
- Facilitate communication of Virtus expectations for volunteers and volunteer leaders and follow through on having volunteers trained. Hold volunteers accountable.
- Serve on the Tithing Committee.
- Share Football Parking lot staffing.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the Pastor.
